My Summer Saviour: Culottes.

Summer is hot. Summer is sweaty. And chub rub is real. So, to make life more bearable in when it warms up I live it culottes. I love how flowy and comfy they are and also how easy to style and cool they look.

These particular black culottes are from New Look via ASOS and I think they work perfectly for a casual day with the girls or smartened up for a more formal work environment.

For this lazy Saturday spent shopping with the girls, I decided to pair the culottes with an old Topshop crop top and my uber comfy New Balance trainers.

And you can still jump around like an idiot in them.

So, don’t be surprised if you see me living in culottes until the weather decides to behave itself and cool down a little.

Currently Obsessed With…

I should probably start by saying that if I find something I like I get obsessed with it. I have been known to listen to the same band non stop for 6 months and watch the same film twice in one day. I can’t help it, it must be how I’m wired. So, I go in and out of phases of being obsessed with certain things and I thought I would share what’s currently got my undivided attention.

1. The Gilmore Guys podcast.

gilmore guys

As you probably already know Gilmore Girls is one of my many obsessions (I’ve seen every episode at least 7 times). But, recently I found of a way of revisiting the whole series without having to commit to another complete run through of all 7 seasons. I stumbled upon The Gilmore Guys podcast a few months ago and it has become the soundtrack to my 2 hour commute to work and back everyday. Demi and Kevin are hilarious and its really made me think a little deeper about a show I have loved for so long. I am a little late to the party (it started 2 years ago) but I am so loving the journey so far and can’t wait to make it all the way through, I’m on season 3 so only 4 left to go.

2. The River by Bruce Springsteen.

The_River_(Bruce_Springsteen)_(Front_Cover)

A young Bruce Springsteen may just be my idea of the perfect man, he is bae! But this album in particular has been my soundtrack to the last couple of months, when I haven’t been listening to podcasts. Its perfect blend of upbeat dance alongs like ‘Hungry Heart’ and more thought provoking slow songs like ‘Independence Day’ and songs I must have at my wedding like ‘I Wanna Marry You’ work together to create an album that has everything you could ever need on it. Bruce fan or not, this album is everything.

3. Films starring a young Tom Cruise.

2310screenshot

Recently I have watched; A Few Good Men (pictured above), Rain Man, Top Gun, Risky Business, Jerry Maguire and Cocktail. Not only was a young Tom Cruise just the most handsome man in all the land, but this is also when he did some of his best acting work. Cocktail will forever be in my top 10 movies of all time and A Few Good Men is just sublime. Cruise’s early work was phenomenal, he was funny and charming and powerful and sexy and had gravitas. Do yourself a favour, and if you haven’t watched any of the films mentioned watch them, and if you have rediscover them. He’s allowed to jump on couches like a loon with a filmography like that.

That is basically it for the time being, but believe me it takes up a lot of my time. Let me know if you get obsessed with things too and what you’re currently in to. Now if you’ll excuse me I feel like I’m about to go deep into a young Robert De Niro phase, if anyone needs me I’ll be watching The Deer Hunter.

New Years Resolutions

As we all know Christmas is over, the New Year has started and work form some reason has come back into our lives again. As always with each New Year we look back on the year we`ve just finished and look forward to trying at life again.

Last year was quite a big year for me, I actually accomplished a lot. I managed to get myself out of a rubbish minimum wage job into starting my career, I passed my driving test, I got a car and I secured a place on a teacher training programme starting this September. Since last year was so successful for my career I want to focus on my lifestyle and mainly money.

Resolutions:

  1. Stop wasting money on high end skin care because the bog standard Boots botanics works just as well for your skin.
  2. Stop buying clothes all the time that you end up almost never wearing.
  3. Each week commit to going to the gym at least 3 times and do yoga on the other days.
  4. Keep up making lunch for work but stop eating the other rubbish.
  5. STOP DRINKING DIET COKE!!

That last one is a biggie for me. I have for many years pretty much had an addiction to Diet Coke, its been my thing. I`ve always known that its really bad for me but now that I want to get serious about my heath and fitness its time to make it just a special treat not my main source of hydration.

Now these may not seem like huge changes, but thats the point. Anything too big and I won`t keep to it. These 5 little changes can have an impact on my life in a positive way and I`m hoping they will.

I hope you all have had a fabulous Christmas and an excellent New Year.

Crafting for Christmas. Making Bunting.

I have always loved one of a kind, hand made crafts. The fact that they are so personal and made with such love makes them so much more beautiful to me. Now I`ve never been particularly creative but luckily I have an amazing mother who is extremely talented when it comes to all things textiles. So with mother keeping an eye on me, I attempted to make my first ever lot of bunting.

*DISCLAIMER* I got a good way through and forgot to take photos so there will be a gap but I will try my best to fill it in with words.

DSC_0015

First thing I did was get an example of bunting that my mum had made to use as a guide but you could always just use anything triangular shaped or go free hand.

DSC_0017

Then I traced around it to create my pattern for my own bunting making sure to leave a seam allowance.

DSC_0018

This will be the pattern to use for cutting out the fabric and it can be kept for making more bunting at a later date.

DSC_0016

Next choose your fabric. I got these three from a local haberdashery shop and they were nice and cheap as they were run offs.

DSC_0019

Folding over the fabric for when you cut out the pattern just makes life easier as you will need two lots of fabric for each bit of bunting.

DSC_0020

Keep cutting out until you run out of fabric.

DSC_0021

Place two bits of fabric with the pattern sides facing each other as you will need to sew inside out. Now ids where I stopped taking photos because I`m super useful but from there you would pin the fabric in place and head to your sewing machine.

From there you sew all the way around the outside leaving a gap of about 4cm on one of the sides of the triangle so that you can turn it back to the right way round. Once you have turned it inside out to the pattern facing out cut some red ribbon into lengths of 10cm fold in half and place in the hole that is left.

Sew up the hole with the ribbon inside to make it look like the trunk of a Christmas tree.

DSC_0022

Find some fabric or ribbon that you want the bunting for hang from and attach using a button to look like the star on top of the Christmas tree.

Tidy up all the stray bits of thread and repeat the process for all the bits of fabric you have cut out until your bunting is complete.

And there you have it, a quick little guide to the worlds simplest bunting. Let me know if you try it out.

I hope everyone has an amazing Christmas and a very happy New Year.

15 of My Favourite Feelings.

I know I`ve been a little bit all over the place, but December has been a very stressful month. I`ve been applying for teacher training courses and have had interviews and its not an easy process. So I need a slightly less high maintenance post so here you have 15 of my favourite feelings.

  1. Finding a tenner in my coat pocket.
  2. Making my nephew laugh…that smile.
  3. When you FINALLY pop a stubborn spot.
  4. Being that one person your friend can talk to.
  5. When everyone loves what you`ve cooked.
  6. When you achieve that flawless base.
  7. The first glass of Diet Coke after a long day.
  8. Driving into work knowing that I love my job.
  9. The goosebumps you get when a song really hits home.
  10. Making my mum and dad proud.
  11. Wearing pjs, in no make up and no bra feeling beautiful.
  12. The quiet of a cricket ground before the crowds enter.
  13. Being in the arms of the man (or person) you love knowing he truly loves you.
  14. Being one of the lads when you`re a girl.
  15. Knowing that I am a kick ass woman and the best me I can be.

Sorry this is a little short but I have to get back to interview preparation.

My Go To Make Up.

When you wake up at 6am 5 nights a week you tend to go into a make up auto pilot, what with the lack of being properly awake. So this is what I wear 99% of the time I`m wearing make up.

DSC_0002

I start with my favourite base the Estee Lauder Double Wear All-Day Glow BB in Intensity 1.0. I apply it with fingers and apply it very thinly and it evens my skin tone out nicely whilst letting my skin breathe a little, aka you can still see my freckles through it.

DSC_0004

Next I apply the Rimmel 2-in-1 Concealer and Highlighter in 010 Ivory on any blemishes and then use this Eco Tool tiny buffer brush to blend out the concealer. I also use this under my eyes but I only apply a little as I don`t have particularly bad eye bags…thank the lord.

DSC_0006

Next I set all of my blemish concealing and pay special attention to my forehead with the Maybelline Matte Maker in 10 Classic Ivory and it`s a great skin control product.

DSC_0005

Next I use the Collection Cover Stick in 01 Light to go over any particularly stubborn blemishes to try and just get rid of the red.

DSC_0007

Lastly, I use The body Shop All in One Cheek Colour in Bubblegum and it`s a great everyday flush of pink blusher that is just a no brainer when my brain isn`t awake yet.

On a day to day basis I don`t do any eye make up or do my eyebrows. This is mainly because I`m lazy and it takes far too long but also as a glasses wearer I find that you can never really see if my eyes and eyebrows are done so I just skip them.

So this is what I wear on the regular. It`s fast, it`s simple and it`s effective.
