Three trends I’m not ready to say goodbye to

I’ve been eyeing up this dress for what feels like months. I spotted it in my size a few weeks ago, and of course it came home with me.

It got me thinking about the trends I’ve been loving, and that are probably on their way out.

Basket Bags
Basket bags started to appear all over Instagram last summer. They were calling to my vintage loving heart.

I picked this up at a Miss Ivy event at Mount Edgecombe last summer, and have been waiting for an opportunity to wear it out. I’m a little nervous about wearing it, due to the changeable British weather, currently it is full of scarves.

I know when the trend is over, if I no longer gravitate towards wearing it, the basket will work as a piece of home wear.

Ultimately it’s a basket, so it could store; blankets, cushions, shoes…

Embroidery
This is probably my favourite trend from last year. It’s more than just floral, this Primark dress marks the move away from embroidery with the motif on the bust, and the small flowers across the skirt.

It’s 100% cotton, with a tie string tassel back. The small details, and material make this stand out a bit more from your usual dress.

Thanks to the thin straps, it means I probably won’t be fitting it into my work wardrobe but for weekends and beach trips it’ll be perfect.

Tassel earrings
The grey cuties in this one are from Lovisa. I bought them before the Turtle Bay Launch event, I’d wanted to try the trend but was struggling to find a pair in a colour way that suited my style and Lovisa had a wall of soft toned earrings.

Since then I’ve added a red pair to my collection (thank you Nicole) and about five pairs from Primark in an array of colours.

These are my favourite thing to add to a simple outfit, to snazz things up a bit.

What trends are you not looking forward to ending?

My Summer Saviour: Culottes.

Summer is hot. Summer is sweaty. And chub rub is real. So, to make life more bearable in when it warms up I live it culottes. I love how flowy and comfy they are and also how easy to style and cool they look.

These particular black culottes are from New Look via ASOS and I think they work perfectly for a casual day with the girls or smartened up for a more formal work environment.

For this lazy Saturday spent shopping with the girls, I decided to pair the culottes with an old Topshop crop top and my uber comfy New Balance trainers.

And you can still jump around like an idiot in them.

So, don’t be surprised if you see me living in culottes until the weather decides to behave itself and cool down a little.

You’re Never Too Old For A Playground.

January is over! Well if those aren’t three of my favourite words. January is done, its all up hill from here. There has been some horrendous weather these last few weeks, vicious wind and thundering rain but in-between the sun has been forcing its way through. So a friend and I decided to get out while we could, so I took us to where I spent my childhood playing for hours. We went to the Cargreen playground and stood in awe of its beauty, then we played in the play park. Age is just a number people.

One day I will have a house that close to a river or the sea.

dsc_0032

Despite sunny pretences, there has been and there will be rain. Not long before this was taken a child in wellies was having the time of his life in that giant puddle.

I played on this aeroplane over 20 years ago. Its the only piece of play equipment that has survived the upgrade of this park.

This place is beautiful and filled with memories of the happiest childhood anyone could ask for. I can’t wait until its warm and sunny and can take pictures here again.

The incredible Poppy Print top from TU that I can’t stop wearing

So for my first post of the year I didn’t think there could be anything better to write about an my favourite top of 2016. I have a thing for button up shirts, so this was always going to a firm favourite, but there are so many aspects of this TU top that make me reach for it every single week.

It’s cute and comfy for a weekend brunch, or a cinema trip yet it’s smart enough to wear to work. This is paired with the first pair of black jeans I’ve ever loved: my New Look High Waited jeans from the Curves range. Stretchy and slimming they make an incredible base for most outfits. These boots are an old pair of Clarkes beauties that badly need reheeling.

I realised this year how much I love 70’s inspired prints, and thanks to Sally how fashionable and affordable Sainsburys clothing range is.

New Pin Haul.

I love pins. They are so versatile and fun. You can wear them on the lapel of your denim or leather jacket or on a bag or purse or really wherever you want. They can be so easily changed from piece to piece to go on whatever it is you’re wearing.

So I found really fun online store called Hand Over Your Fairy Cakes. They have a great range of fun and political pins and I just had to get myself some of the feminist ones. And this is what I got.

dsc_0045

These are the three pins that I bought myself and they all have a feminist theme.

dsc_0048

This ‘feminist killjoy’ pin is going straight onto my oversized vintage denim jacket. I love the fact that at first glance you wouldn’t even realise what it said, but look close enough and you will know what I’m trying to say with this pin.

dsc_0046

This ‘behold my feminist agenda’ pin is going to have to go everywhere with me, because so does my feminist agenda.

dsc_0049

And this might be my favourite pin of all the ones I bought. The ‘I’m not sorry about your fragile masculinity’ pin says everything I knew I needed to say and now I can say it every time I leave the house.

In terms of quality, the pins are all metal with secure fastenings at the back to be put on to your clothes. Also, the delivery was fast and well packaged so no worry of any breakages. AND in the package you are given a chocolate and a refreshers sweet, aka the fastest way to my heart.

In case you want to peruse the website yourself the business card above will direct to the site. The customer service is great and I cannot recommend them enough. They have a great selection of retro designs if you don’t want to scream your feminist persuasions from your lapels.

#PlymouthBloggerMeet Fun in the Sun at Mount Edgecumbe.

A little bit of a throw back for you today. A few weekends ago it was the #PlymouthBloggerMeet, arranged by the delightful Ellie (littleelliemae.co.uk). The event was held at The Orangery at Mount Edgecumbe on a beautiful May Saturday. Emily and I arrived a little early and decided to take some pictures in the gorgeous surroundings of Mount Edgecumbe. And here’s the fun we had.

In case you were wondering about my outfit:

Top: New Look (old)

Bottoms: Primark

Shoes: Vans Sk8 Hi

The Gods could not have been more on our side with the weather, we could not have asked for better.

H&M Haul.

I have always been a big fan of H&M, such better quality compared to primark and not that much more expensive. So when you have some spare cash and you see some discounts H&M is a good bet. So here’s what I got.

image

This is a patterned racer back vest and was only about ÂŁ3.99. It is a little see through, but nothing a good black bra won’t fix. Perfect for work or play.

image

Next is a black and white striped, jersey, long sleeved top for only ÂŁ7.99. Again it’s a little see through but a black vest will fix that and it is so soft you can’t complain.

image

Next is a blue and white (it’s a dark navy but trust me it’s blue) polo shirt from the conscious range. Its 100% organic cotton and for some reason I’ve been wanting a polo shirt for a while.

image

Next is the same as the black and white striped top but in a zig zag pattern.

image

The last thing is a very light sky blue shirt. Perfect for summer work wear and a bargain at only ÂŁ10 in the sale.

So that’s what I got myself. Thanks to discounts it was all only ÂŁ35…yay! I will say with H&M that I always size up as the sizes tend to run small, other than that I live everything.
