My Eyeshadow Palette Collection.

A great eye look will always perk up your life, we all know that. And a good eyeshadow palette makes life so much easier. But being a make up hoarder you can never just have one palette, that is never enough. As you grow so does your collection and this is mine.

Let’s start how we online shop…cheapest first.

image

This MUA palette was around ยฃ8 and it’s years old but I’m sure they do something similar. MUA is exclusive to superdrug and despite the low price point the quality is pretty darn good. This would be a great start for someone who is just getting into eyeshadow because it has a great range of neutrals.

image

With 3 mattes and the rest are sparkles you can make a great eye look with just this palette.

image

Yeah so the name is rubbed off mine but this is the L’Oreal La Palette Nude. We all that L’Oreal make great quality products and their eyeshadows have great pay off.

image

Although this is a nude palette it has some great transition colours for more colourful looks.

image

This might be my favourite palette. The Urban Decay Naked Basics palette is so perfect for travel and great for an understated neutral look.

image

It has everything you could possibly need if you were strapped for space when packing for a holiday.

image

My last eyeshadow palette is the Urban Decay Naked 2 palette, don’t ask me why I don’t have any of the others. Really good quality, great colour pay off and not a bad price point for the amount of colours you get.

image

I love how they’re neutrals but a bit more than the usual browns. The purples and greys can really help make a multitude of looks. As much as I love my mattes, I always find myself using the metallics because they give such a pretty shimmer to the eyes.

So that’s my little collection, hopefully it’ll grow in the coming years. I’d love to know your favourite palettes and any recommendations for me.

Make up look: five minutes to get ready

If your anything like me, if you have 30 minutes to get ready you will spend the majority of that time procrastinating (read: texting/Netflix/youtube).

This is how I make myself look presentable in under five minutes. This was at the end of the day when I’d worn makeup to work and was popping to the pub to catch up with a friend.

image

After running a brush throwing my hair I grabbed these three products: a makeup sponge, a lipliner and a bright lipstick.

After wetting the Makeup sponge I tapped it across my face to blend whatever bade I had left. This evened out my skintone nicely. This one is from a Glossybox and so far I’m preferring it to my Real Techniques makeup sponge.
image

I then grabbed my Autograph Universal Lip liner, this is an interesting product ad it doesn’t have a colour pay off, meaning it helps keep your lip colour in place, regardless of the colour. Little tip with this one, apply with a gentle hand. It snaps really easily
image

I finished with MAC Pickled Plum, first I dabbed this onto my lips to stain them, then I applied straight from the bullet with two layers dabbing off the excess in between.

image
not my best selfie, but i have an evened out base and am feeling so much more “done” ๐Ÿ˜Š

The lipstick is the main feature of this look, and it’s a really fun impactful colour (if that’s even a word). If I’d had a couple more layers I would have applied a touch of concealer to my cheeks and chin, and a brightening concealer under my eyes but I was really happy with how it turned out.

What do you so when you have a very short period of time to get ready?

How I Take My Make-Up Off When I’m Being Good.

I, like all of us, try so hard to do be good when it comes to skincare. But, again like all of us, when I’ve had a long day and all I want to do is fall asleep flat on my face the last thing I want to do is a double cleanse.

Sometimes, however, I have a last ounce of energy and I take my make-up off properly like my mother always told me to. When I’m tired it seems like the longest process in the world but at most it takes about 6 minutes. So here is what I do on the good days.

image

First I start with The Body Shop Camomile Silky Cleansing Oil, straight onto the skin and massaged in well. I like to take my time with the massage to really break up the make-up. I then wet my hands and massage the water onto the oil to emulsify it and further break down the make-up. Then I wash it all off ready for the next step.

image

I had to find a picture of a white face towel because mine is in the wash. Anyway, I run the hot tap and soak the towel until it’s hot I then ring out the excess water and place it on my face for 30-60 seconds. This helps open up the pores for the second cleanse.

image

For my second cleanse I absolutely love Herbalism from Lush. It leaves my skin feeling thoroughly cleansed but well moisturised.

image

As a fan of chopping and changing my skincare routine to keep my skin on its toes I like to have another option. This Yes To Cucumber Daily Gentle Cleanser was a bit of a whim purchase but I’ve actually enjoyed using it, it leaves a fresh feeling and doesn’t strip the skin.

So there you have it, the routine I use when I’m forcing myself to be good about my skin. I’d love to hear if you have any great cleansing products that you use…preferably that are affordable options.

No7 Event and the First Time I had my Make-Up Done.

So last Thursday Emily and I were lucky enough to be invited to a No7 event here in Plymouth. It was to try out their Match Made service, which I had heard of but never tried myself. Now, No7 is a brand that I has always been around but I’ve never really thought of for myself. I remember stealing my first ever lipstick from my mum and it was a gorgeous plum shade by No7, and I loved it. Since hitting my twenties I’ve come to realise that the brands I associate with my mum are actually really great brands (why do mums always know best even with make up) and No7 is definitely an example of that.

image
Cute set up at the event with personalised gift bag ๐Ÿ™‚

They gave us a run down of the Match Made service and how it works and I made notes so I’ll pass those onto you. Well, the gist I got was they have a camera that has 200 LED lights and takes a picture of your clean skin (usually on the jawline because of less pigmentation). The camera then let’s you know your shade, one of 17 shades and then you can choose from 12 different types of coverages and finishes. From the shade you are given you can match your concealer, your powder, your lipstick and now your blusher. And so that’s how it works, it’s been running for a few years now and all products and developments are tested on over 2000 women to ensure quality.

The products used on me.

At the event we had the Match Made service used on us and got our make-up done, something that I have never had done before and I loved it. My shade was Calico and I matched it to a lipstick called Pink Hint and a publisher called Peony Mist both muted pinks. The first thing they did on my skin was take off my original make-up using the Beautiful Skin  Cleanising Water, the I was moisturised using Beautiful Skin Day Cream and the Early Defense Eye Cream. Next was the Stay Perfect Primer which is a complete dupe for the Porefessional by Benefit but for a fraction of the price. After the primer was my foundation choice, I went for a foundation more light to medium coverage the Air Brush Away foundation in Calico and was lovely and light on the skin whilst being a decent coverage. Lastly, the Instant Radiance Concealer in 010 and the Match Made Concealer in 010 for under eyes and blemishes respectively.

The Air Brush Away foundation used on me.

Overall, I really enjoyed the event and having my make-up done for the first time. Everyone was so friendly and chatty and it has really enamored me to No7 again. So, if you have a No7 at and near you try out their Match Made service I highly recommend it.

My Go To Make Up.

When you wake up at 6am 5 nights a week you tend to go into a make up auto pilot, what with the lack of being properly awake. So this is what I wear 99% of the time I`m wearing make up.

DSC_0002

I start with my favourite base the Estee Lauder Double Wear All-Day Glow BB in Intensity 1.0. I apply it with fingers and apply it very thinly and it evens my skin tone out nicely whilst letting my skin breathe a little, aka you can still see my freckles through it.

DSC_0004

Next I apply the Rimmel 2-in-1 Concealer and Highlighter in 010 Ivory on any blemishes and then use this Eco Tool tiny buffer brush to blend out the concealer. I also use this under my eyes but I only apply a little as I don`t have particularly bad eye bags…thank the lord.

DSC_0006

Next I set all of my blemish concealing and pay special attention to my forehead with the Maybelline Matte Maker in 10 Classic Ivory and it`s a great skin control product.

DSC_0005

Next I use the Collection Cover Stick in 01 Light to go over any particularly stubborn blemishes to try and just get rid of the red.

DSC_0007

Lastly, I use The body Shop All in One Cheek Colour in Bubblegum and it`s a great everyday flush of pink blusher that is just a no brainer when my brain isn`t awake yet.

On a day to day basis I don`t do any eye make up or do my eyebrows. This is mainly because I`m lazy and it takes far too long but also as a glasses wearer I find that you can never really see if my eyes and eyebrows are done so I just skip them.

So this is what I wear on the regular. It`s fast, it`s simple and it`s effective.

The Makeup I Reach For When I’m On Auto Pilot In The Mornings

I work in an office full time, and as the anethisus of a morning person, my alarm goes off just after six every morning so I can guarantee I won’t miss my bus to work every morning. (I also catch a bus earlier than I need to, but that more to do with enjoying a quiet office).

Claires Accessories Make Up Bag

I tend to carry this (adoreable) small ish makeup bag around everyday, and parr back so I have only what I really need in it. Some of these products I’ve used since I was eighteen and some are brand new.

image
Products (Left to Right) : Rimmel Clear Complextion Clarifying Powder, Rimmel Glam Eyes Liquid Liner, Maybeline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation, Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer, Rimmel Match Perfection Concealer.

These are my base products, the Dream Matte Mousse I tend to swing in and out if rotation because it drys out my skin, but I love the finish and the longevity but I can’t use it for too extended a period of time. The Rimmel Powder is new, with powders I tend to buy the cheapest that’s a closest match to my skin tone. Sometimes this back fires on me, but this powder is doing the job.

The concealer are my go to’s, the Collection is a cult favourite for its high pigmentation and creamy consistency. It is amazing for spot treatments and keeping my chin from getting obviously oily. The Rimmel on the otherhand is the best most dewy under eye concealer.

And the Rimmel Liquid Liner? I’ve been using it since I was 18, lovely smooth consistency with a very fine brush. I hate felt tip liners, I can never get a fine or clean line with them. I find them so clumpy and messy, I constantly repurchase this liner.

image
Soap and Glory Archery Brow Pencil

This is my second purchase, I love how find the pencil is and how natural a brow I can create. It also has a spooly on the end for brushing your brows, it is everything you need for your brows in one tidy slim package.

image
Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liner in Eastend Snob, Revlon Colour Burst Lip Butter in Tutti Frutti

These two have very different colours and finishes. The lipliner has a very matte finish, which gives a natural pinky colour, it was a recommendation from my friend Hannah from Tea In My Wardrobeย and has been one of my favourites to date. A pinky your lips but better colour.ย The Colour Burst Lip Butter gives the nicest most summery colour. It’s an orange, but a very subtle orange that really warms up your skin tone.

image
Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real Mascara

And the creme de la creme, Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real Mascara. I know people complain about how difficult this is to remove but I’ve found the perfect cleanser that removes this like a dream. It gives me the best most open eyed look, one coat looks natural and lovely and building it up gives a dramatic evening look.

Anyway those are my auto pilot products, I can apply them without thinking in the morning and know that they are all I ever need to look pulled together and ready to take on the world. I can even apply them on the bus if I’ve managed to oversleep. What are your products? Do you also love these, or do you have something better you have to share with me? Please do, I know what to swatch next time I’m in Boots!

Emily

(We’re pretty new as a blog so this should go without saying, but I purchased all these products myself. This is notย a sponsored post)

My Go To Foundations.

I have been wearing make up since I was at least 14 years old and one of the biggest struggles of that time is finding that one soul mate of a foundation. Having struggled with bad skin for as long as I can remember my foolish young self thought the best way to deal with this was to cover it all up with heavy full coverage foundations. Now that I am older, hopefully wiser, I have discovered a light coverage foundation with good concealing is a much better option for my skin. So in this post I will be sharing 6 of my favourite foundations (technically 3 are BB creams but we’ll just go with it) and why I love them so much. So let’s begin.

The Body Shop All-In-One BB Cream 00
The Body Shop All-In-One BB Cream 00

Oh this BB cream might be my soul sister. My skin has always loved Body Shop products and reacts so well to them, so when I started using this my skin basically jumped up and down with joy. Super light weight consistency, feels like there’s nothing on the skin and spends the whole day sitting under all the other face products moisturising and doing good stuff. Now along with being light weight it is a very light coverage, do not expect this BB cream to cover anything more than evening out some redness. But with good concealing it looks so natural and what it lacks in coverage it makes up for in skin benefits.

Estee Lauder Double Wear All-Day Glow BB Intensity 1.0
Estee Lauder Double Wear All-Day Glow BB Intensity 1.0

The newest BB cream to join my little collection (bought in duty free so ever so slightly more affordable) and my current go to. This does have a more foundation like consistency and is less cream like than other BBs I have tried and is thus a more light plus coverage. I personally have never tried to build coverage but it seems like it could be build-able. Evens out skin tone beautifully, covers tiny imperfections and redness well but spots and scars still need concealing. This is more of a splurge product but since not a lot of product is needed for each application it will last me a long time, I like to get my moneys worth.

Body Shop Vitamin E Cool BB Cream
Body Shop Vitamin E Cool BB Cream

The last of the BB creams. Not much to say about this one, its a good bog standard BB cream that just does the job. I tend to use this product more when my skin is feeling a little dehydrated because it does have great moisturising qualities. Again a very light coverage that needs a good amount of concealing but for those days when your skin needs a big drink this is a great option.

Body Shop Extra Virgin Minerals Loose Powder 102 Natural Ivory
Body Shop Extra Virgin Minerals Loose Powder 102 Natural Ivory

The only powder foundation in my collection and the only one I’ve found myself being able to work with. I use this more on days when my skin is looking pretty good and doesn’t need much concealing. Leaves a lovely velvet finish while letting the skin breathe a bit more. It also works nicely over a BB cream for a little more coverage.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Light Intensity 1.0
Estee Lauder Double Wear Light Intensity 1.0

This used to be my go to everyday foundation choice before I discovered BB creams. Good solid light coverage foundation, that can be built up to medium, but still requires some concealing. Lovely matte finish, great a evening skin tone out but became a little heavy for me for my everyday use. Now its my go to night out foundation because of its medium coverage and its wonderful staying power, I can dance up a sweaty storm and still looks almost flawless. Great colour match for this pale gal and just love love love it.

Maybelline Dream Flawless Nude 10 Ivory
Maybelline Dream Flawless Nude 10 Ivory

Like the Double Wear Light much more of a light build-able to medium coverage foundation. Feels gorgeous on the skin as it leaves a velvet, soft, semi-matte finish. Great colour match for the pale and because of its fluid consistency is so easy to blend and thin out where its not needed but build up where it is.

So that’s my foundation/BB cream collection. Since adopting the light coverage good concealing philosophy my skin has only got better and I can’t rave about it enough. Obviously some people love a more full coverage approach but if you’re looking to dial it back a little the products mentioned are great options to try.
